Ans: As the new version of the Scarlet A, this can serve as a means to distract the people away from more compelling and immediate issues while splitting the country; and in its chaos, grab power through mob rule which ultimately persecute others; just recall, once Witch Burning was considered morally correct.
The President, in order to serve the people cannot be on one side or the other of such an issue, but to address it for what it really is worth !
As President, the bases of this issue has to be more of a question of 'Big Government vs. Personal Values'. There are consequences from either standpoint that must also be accounted for in the Due Diligence of the Government; and for all involved.
Let us keep in mind that The Right to Life implies Divine Life at conception, yet the same moral values generally include Original Sin upon birth as the ignored dichotomy.
This dichotomy need not be challenged when we consider that Moral Values are ultimately personal values; and that the 'Right to Choose' is then translated to the Morality of our choices that we must live with.
'Big Government' is a government that would intend to make laws with respect to what our personal values are. By this definition, an irresponsible pregnancy is simply a moral or personal value which in turn could be outlawed by the same reasoning as the Right to Life. This does not serve the people.
Exploiting Irresponsible pregnancies makes great commercial time for the Day Time Network TV industry where they promote DNA testing as an example of 25 men, where one might be responsible for fathering a child with an so called innocent young teen age girl; or where there are multiple women/girls that are pregnant by the same male ? Our Moral Values could be such that Illicit Pregnancies are outlawed punishable by some penalty; but then what do we do with all the Night Time TV shows Family Value that promote illicit sex indirectly such as 7th Heaven, Fresh Gilmore Girls, etc.
In both cases , what is the Government's obligation in terms of the real victim which is the child. Or could we even rationalize, that the TV industry could be victimized if they couldn't have have such air time, which could cost them, their employees, the opportunity for DNA testing labs to advertise, as well as the business opportunity for TV Lawyers and Court TV who want to 'Right your Wrongs for you'.
Should our Moral values even swing instead to the opposite direction and opt to be more like the Mormons in having multiple wifes for one man.
Simply, Where do we draw the line of reasoning in allowing Big Government to make these values for each of us where it has the possibility that laws could be weaved that accomplish nothing more than just to suit convenience.
We the People cannot turn a Blind Eye to what we are dealing with, or in dealing with it exactly where are the "Real Moral Values" ?
Abortion, like Birth is an act that one must live with afterwards, and I don't know of any woman alive that does not find both a traumatic experience, regardless of whether it is suppressed, as it is against instinct even if personally rationalized to oneself as a necessity. Saying that it is a womens right to choose, does not imply that the choice is as arbitrary and indifferent. Every women is different, every family is different, and in each circumstance, every abortion has its diferent reasons that must be lived with afterwards.
How are we to judge moral values when a birth is considered divine in conception but when a child is born, it is statistically ignored more often than not; or even in some cases where the unfortunate child is even born as an Aids Victim ?
How are we to judge moral values when a child is born to an impoverished family where the pregnancy and delivery could have been avoided ?
Once I watched a family with 8 children enter a New York City Subway car that I was on. They were a loving family, as this was obvious in how the father cut up an apple to give to the youngest of his children. The entire family was more than malnourished as each had their eyes sunk into their heads, and lack of the fundamental body fat necessary, at least for the children to develop properly.
It is to easy to pass this off in the terms of the "You Should of's" in terms of the use of family planning, contraception, and abstinence; a the fact is there were 8 innocent victims of Mal-nutrition; where the parents, no matter how much love they had for their children could not sustain them.
How are we to judge moral values when self inflicted and back alley abortions were the norm for the poor and desperate prior to abortions legalization, where the result was more often death of the female ?
How are we to judge moral values when considering taking of life of the 1,000's of children through our collateral damage that we have caused such as in our fervor to liberate Iraq ?
How are we to judge moral values when allowing genocide across the globe, as well as abject poverty even in our Nations Capital ?
If we are to wave the Flag for the Right to Life, or Pro Choice, then we should not live in glass houses. I think many serious questions are warranted as a moral responsibility of those who decide on such laws; or lets just change the term to the 'Right to Birth' with Original Sin as ones' inheritance when conceived for the wrong reasons and born unwanted by most. Let as Also change the Term Pro Choice to 'Deal with It' when and if we endorse abortion.
We need backbone to embrace the decisions that we make, or our decisions are nothing more than just washing our hands of the issues at other's expense.
for the sake of fairness, we owe it to the people to demonstrate the thinking behind workable solution that accounts for responsibility in that solution for all concerned or we should all wear the Scarlet A no matter if we personally believe in ProLife or ProChoice.
We as people will never have the Absolute in terms of one view over another, or abolish illegitimate children, and Abortion, or have in any way a perfect World that does not assault our personal sensibilities; and this is something that each of us must own up to within ourselves.
We could in all fairness accept the faults that are inherent in human nature, no matter which way we choose to look at it, and endow our Educational Systems in not teaching values, but in the cost of not having them. This provides temperance, and acceptance of our own faults, and could instill our efforts to improve on our personal standards of life. Through Due Diligence we could as a nation have less unwanted children, less abortions, less failed marriages, and less fatalities, and persecution in an issue that currently divides us.
Instead of trying to control something, we can always learn to manage it instead.
