Balanced Party Candidate for Election 2008

In response to Mitt Romney's Speech at CPAC on March 2, 2007

It is always good to listen with an open ear when hearing an Election 2008 candidate speak. I listened to Mitt Romney at CPAC via C-Span. I continued to listen with a 3rd ear. In other words, what is he saying besides in getting to exercise his presentation skills of Shock and Awe?

He left me with many outstanding questions, and in particular, ' What is True Conservatism'?

Mitt spoke about having a Strong Defense, Strong Economy, and about some of his personal beliefs on gay marriages and pro life. It appeared that for him, this was the position of the true conservative !

In fairness, I continued to listen as wanting to understand what he meant by a Strong Defense, and Strong Economy firstly. I waited to hear something more about this, but did not hear any thing – So were these just 'touch points' of some sort where he would provide some detail sometime later?

About 'A Strong Defense': So what did Mitt mean by this, as you don't have to be a galvanized conservative to want this; and matter of fact could the better question be ' who would not want it?'

Duncan L. Hunter on the floor of Congress, another Election 2008 Candidate' said that we already have a Strong Defense' – Duncan is also a conservative too !

So what exactly did Mitt mean ? Others though have noticed that our military is over stretched, where some of our brave military are even returning to Iraq for a 4th time. And meantime the equipment is reported to be worn out. So is Mitt willing to actually speak his soul about this ?

Perhaps Mitt also should speak about what he plans on doing with this Strong Defense'. And further, what is a Strong Defense, compared to a Strong Offense ; or are they considered as one and the same ?

If he was President today, where would his priorities be, and when elected president in 2008. In other words, does he view the War on Terror as a non-ending fight of the 'Right' against the 'Wrong'; or does he have finite military objectives; and in which countries would he commit our troops . Is he actually intending a strong military presence in different perpetual theaters across the globe ?

And about financing this Strong Defense, is Mitt willing to figure out how to repair a military that could be fatigued; or if we do in fact have a strong one already instead miraculously after 5 years of war, then does Mitt have some idea on how to continue to finance it ?

And then, what about our Veterans, as this was never mentioned by Mitt, or maybe it was, but I simply don't remember this as one of his touch points !

Ah ha ! - Perhaps a Strong Defense is through having a Strong Economy, which is another touch point that he mentioned ?

About 'A Strong Economy' – Does this mean putting people back to work again? I listened, but did not hear about this; in other words, what about you and me ? What I heard was a 'Strong Economy'.

If Mitt agrees with Bush that we do have a Strong Economy, then does he agree with Cheny, that deficits do not matter ? So what does this actually mean in terms of our future tax commitments to pay for all this.

Recall, Bush got the green light hands over from congress on 9/12/2001 to deficit spend for Defense in order to go after Bin Laden. Lockheed also made out well that October in getting a great Defense contract over Boeing. But again, this is based on monies that we don't have, and need to borrow, and have significantly since.

The bottom line is that we are really loaned out, but where if you invest in defense stocks, you might make out alright. Any economy is based on a Debt/Equity cycle where this has not been observed since year 2000. Normally it is an annual thing. So really what is the stock worth if the US dollar keeps loosing value? One solution is that before the bubble pops, just sell out and buy yen !

And then again what about the rest of us which have to pay for this debt ? We already work from 2 to 3 days out of every 5 in order to afford our government's spending, and we need jobs in order to do this in the first place. I listened, but there was no mention of this.

Gay Marriage and Abortion: The main question I have here is why any president would concern them selves with such divisive issues when considering the separation of Church and State. Is such a candidate questioning the First Amendment in the Constitution?

When it comes to our personal beliefs, as Jefferson had demonstrated, it is between us an our God. Further, what ever our belief in God is, is likewise our own.

There are many countries where religion and government go hand and hand. Iran is one of them. More than likely they would have disdain over gay couples, and women who have had abortions. Further consider one of our most hated enemies, Osama Bin Laden, and what he has done in the name, and beliefs of his religious followings.

So then what really differentiates the United States Government in terms of moral fibers. Should we just say that we do not approve, or is it against the law to be gay, or are we willing to face the fact that before legal abortions, that there were coat hanger abortions that were also lethal to the mother.

These are truly difficult questions to embrace as there are rights to the wrongs, and wrongs to the rights. But of course they can be answered easily by being either pro or con. In either case, of being pro or con, what is the difference in saying –“you are either with us or against us” which can lay waste to a nation through intolerance.

So I would have to ask Mitt, really what does this have to do with being President, for if you were either pro or con, a devout Christian, or of some following, would this be the way you would actually want to lead a nation when in restrospect, 'united we stand, and divided we fall'. Hence this goes full circle with the previous questions, of 'what is a strong defense if divided, and what is a strong economy if we were to fall '? Then frankly, the final question is, what is True Conservatisim?'

In Retrospect,
