Ans: I view these as Labels and as labels, attempt to describe illusions as some form of a reality. Typically its in our attempt to pigeon hole a view, following or position on something. simple examples:
- Compassionate Conservative = Having compassion ( something Good ) and Conservative ( values like my own ? )
- Liberal = Accepts Faults ( will accept mine too ? )
I view both of the above as potential psychological misdemeanors when we want to associate ourselves with something. The best way to clarify my position is in terms of when and how we make judgments.
I would want to think of myself as somewhat conservative in terms of the use of resources and in making judgments, in that judgments that we make are most of the time are final, and have a responsibility in the judgment that we make. So basically I advocate to not to rush in making judgments till all the facts are in. Part of making a judgment is in determining what purpose the decision really serves, and also must consider the time frame that the judgment must be made in.
I view that if we opt to judge without facts, then it is the same as opting out to just pigeon hole for the sake our own convenience in how we try to put an issue behind us or to serve a very personal agenda. But on the other hand, we actually are not putting the issue behind us, as again we have to live with the decisions that we make; and will eventually be reminded of our personal agenda's.
I'm still not sure what a Liberal is, but have heard of something called a 'Bleeding Heart Liberal'. I think this term actually only serves the purposes of the one using it, and not the one that is being referred to. If I wanted to define the notion of 'Liberal', again I would want to apply it to an example such as in being open to alternative 'Points of view'. i.e - open to points of view.
Again, here I am seeking for something that is similar to facts, but not necessarily facts, but also that which could put context in place for the facts.
Its commonly believed that Sadam Hussan would be inclined to use 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' if he had them to use. I accept this as a conclusion based on many facts. I also know that he did not have WMD at the time the Administration decided to commit American Lives in taking over Iraq in the name of Liberation and furthering the Democratic Way.
Points of view from both a Conservative and Liberal standpoint could be, 'Could we have waited' until later for invading Iraq ? This is while putting our full focus on rectifying September 11, 2001. In other words, to put our resources into bringing those who we believed are guilty to answer for this. Example, Osama Bin Laden, and the Al Qaeda was our original objective; and 'Points of view' must be accounted for that believe that we could have caught him and disassembled his following more readily if putting full focus on this.
Is rushing to judgment Conservative or Liberal in view ? The Rush to judgement put our kids in harms way in Iraq. This is at the cost of many lives, with no real exit strategy for Iraq; and while Osama Bin Laden is probably basking in Sweden; while we have just ended up creating a justification for a growing Al Qaeda movement in Iraq; and while we assume to put some form of Government in place for Iraq; and where our focus is in pumping its Oil as opposed to figuring how to have 'Peace with Dignity' in order to get our heroic solders home.
About Saddam Hussan and the threat from Iraq, when considering him to be such a great threat, the question remains, 'How was it so easy to overcome him and his regime ?'; The Answer - basically from the military standpoint he was not really any threat; from the Accountability Standpoint, serves as a distraction from 9/11; and where from the Political Standpoint gives a President a mandate in hand where results can be seemingly intangible.
