The Cost of Government in doing nothing for the People

Note: The following is an example of how the branch's of government in their contention, which is casually referred to as 'Politics', do not operate efficiently; nor cost effectively on behalf of and for the people. Through the history of the United States, we must question how often this is or not the case. Only then can we start to understand the direct and indirect or collateral costs in the operation of our government. Only then can we reduce this cost for the purposes of nothing more, or less than serving the people, which is its sole purpose. By improving the information exchange, it is estimated that cost can be reduced up to 65% in operational and administrative overhead, where needed programs for education, and investment in our nation as a people do not have to be compromised in the name of reducing big government.
Constitutional confrontation over the firing of eight federal prosecutors, and tax payer cost.

The legitimacy of one branch of government over another should not have to be at issue when doing the work of, and for the people; and that when the branches of government work together in a more transparent and accountable manner, the matters of the people are served cost effectively.

An example is about the need of a showdown between House and the Senate's related discovery process over the firings of eight federal prosecutors by the Bush administration. It has escalated to a showdown between Senator Patrick Leahy who wants testimony under oath by White House staff and the President offering the alternative of an informal meet.

I do not question the significance and value in the due diligence of the House Judiciary Subcommittee for its intent and purpose as in general, oversight is a Constitutional duty of the Legislative branch where in noted in the Constitution , Section 8 Powers of Congress states 'To constitute Tribunals inferior to the Supreme Court'. I do view that no matter if we consider it correct that White House representatives such as Karl Rove should be under oath, or that President George Bush prefers non-binding informal conversations, that it should not be necessary for Senator Patrick Leahy to subpoena White House representatives, nor should it be necessary for George Bush to try to exercise Executive Privilege. This ultimately becomes a matter of unnecessary cost and overhead in our government in the exercise of due diligence. With being left with no alternative but to escalate to a potential Supreme Court matter is indicative of further tax dollars for settling differences.

My reasoning is, that when the branches of government do not work together in a transparent and accountable manner in the first place, they are accomplishing no more than tolerating each other at tax payer expense. In other words, although Constitutional confrontation is healthy for our nation such as in testing 'Free Speech', but when used to test the checks and balances between the powers of government, its cost is paid for by the tax payer for accomplishing no more than just putting the branches of government in order.

The question I pose is "what really in fact is 'Big Government' if not the overhead of costs derived from the contention between its branches as opposed to being able to do the business of and for the people?" .

As per the Constitution, the branches of government are to demonstrate a mutual respect, where the Executive Branch should be fully cooperative with the Legislative Branch thereby to minimize the time and cost required for any internal issues. Going a step further, I feel that if the branches were to inform each other of scheduled initiatives, then after the fact discoveries can be minimized.

I see that having transparency and accountability in government demonstrates the true regard of the people, and that this enables the United States to embrace the needs of the people cost effectively.

In example, to have a transparent and accountable Executive Branch that works with both the House and the Senate, then the House and the Senate are obliged to do the same. Efficiency and cost effective government can be achieved where policy and legislative action can take on measurable significance for the benefit of the people.

The true value of political capital is ultimately gained between the branches of government when they work together where no longer is it a matter of tolerance, but becomes a valued and verifiable trust in doing the work for and of the people.

In Retrospect,
